Data and knowledge rules

Currently, the Quisper Service Platform (QSP) offers two extended databases and one knowledge rule, each of them providing a specific service:
  1. Knowledge: EuroFIR – Dietary Reference Values

The dietary reference values (DRVs)include: Population reference intake (PR), average requirement (AR), lower threshold intake (LT) and upper threshold intake (UT) ,and are classified according to age groups (infants, adults, etc.), sex (male, female) and physiological state (pregnancy, breast feeding). DRVs are available for Germany (DE), Austria (AT) and Switzerland (D-A-CH), the United Kingdom (UK), Italy (IT) and Nordic countries (i.e. Denmark [DK], Finland [FI], Iceland [IS], Norway [NO] and Sweden [SE]). As the provider EuroFIR is responsible for maintaining and expanding the data.

  1. Service: Personalised dietary advice

This is a webservice based on the Food4Me level 3 advice. To provide personalised dietary advice, this service requires information such as body metrics (i.e. weight, height, biological sex, etc.), food intake based on a food diary or food frequency questionnaire, blood biomarkers (e.g. cholesterol) and, sometimes, genetic data. Naturally occurring differences in human DNA (variation or polymorphisms) affect the way individuals absorb, transport, store or metabolise nutrients. As a consequence, individual might need to avoid certain foods or nutrients or, more common, need to eat more of a particularly type of one food and less of another. The science describing relationships such as these, between our genes, specific nutrients and some foods, is called nutrigenetics.

It is hoped that three additional knowledge rules will be added to QSP during 2018 allowing:

  • Better dietary advice based on a combination of biomarkers and genes
  • Translation of dietary advice into a menu-planner for one or more weeks
  • Personalised advice for type 2 diabetics
